Bengaluru police have detained a man for allegedly making indecent hand signs at a woman near Gopalan Mall, officials confirmed on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Harsha HB (43) from Vijayanagar, was apprehended after a complaint was lodged by Akshatha Ravikumar, a national media panelist for the Indian Youth Congress. The incident transpired around 4 PM on Wednesday.
Akshatha shared a video of the episode on X, capturing Harsha showing an offensive gesture before driving past her vehicle. She expressed frustration over the challenges faced by women drivers in the city. “After hurling abuses, he violates traffic rules, makes an illegal U-turn, and jumps a red light. Should we just stay silent and move on?” she posted.
According to police sources, investigations revealed that Akshatha was using her phone while driving and overtook Harsha’s vehicle. The video she posted online also suggested that she was filming while behind the wheel. A brief verbal exchange took place before Harsha made the gesture and drove off.
Harsha was traveling with his family during the altercation. Chamarajpet police registered an FIR under Section 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, taking suo motu cognizance of the matter.
Although deemed a minor dispute caused by misinterpretation, authorities proceeded with legal measures. Harsha was later granted station bail.
