
Bengaluru roads soon to see tunnels, double-decker flyovers, and lake revivals

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has unveiled an ambitious ₹40,000 crore infrastructure overhaul for Bengaluru, introducing tunnel expressways, a multi-level flyover, and large-scale urban upgrades.
🔹 Key initiatives:
- Underground Expressways: The government has provided BBMP a ₹19,000 crore guarantee to develop extensive North-South and East-West tunnel routes.
- Massive Flyover Project: A 40.5 km two-tiered flyover will be built at ₹8,916 crore to relieve gridlock.
- Road Network Expansion: 300 km of fresh roads will be laid (₹3,000 crore), with 460 km of primary and secondary roads improved (₹660 crore).
- Metro & Rail Expansion: Namma Metro’s next phase will advance, with plans for an extension to Devanahalli. Bengaluru Suburban Railway’s 148 km network is also progressing.
- Water & Flood Control: A comprehensive ₹3,000 crore drainage plan, ₹2,000 crore flood prevention strategy, and new sewage treatment facilities will modernize water systems.
- Lake Revival Efforts: Restoration of Varthur & Bellandur lakes at ₹234 crore; another ₹35 crore allocated for 14 smaller water bodies.
- Peripheral Ring Road Rebranded: Now called Bengaluru Business Corridor, a 73 km roadway will take shape with a ₹27,000 crore investment.
- Future-Ready Initiatives: A ₹25 crore EV testing track, a Japanese Industrial Park, and Bengaluru Signature Park (407 acres) will drive innovation.
