Even before the starting gun is fired, the 18th edition of the TCS World 10K Bengaluru has already made a major social impact, with more than Rs 5 crore raised for charitable causes.
According to organisers, the funds will benefit 94 non-governmental organisations working across 16 social causes, highlighting the event’s growing role beyond sport.
The charity initiative was facilitated by United Way Bengaluru, the official philanthropy partner of the event.
Companies step up for giving
This year’s edition saw strong corporate participation, with 38 companies fielding teams made up of more than 2,500 employees.
Organisers said the initiative encouraged a culture of giving while also boosting employee engagement and community responsibility within workplaces.
The annual race has increasingly become a platform where fitness meets philanthropy, inspiring participants to run not only for health, but also for social good.
Big race set for Sunday
The marquee event is recognised as a World Athletics Gold Label race, placing it among the world’s leading road running competitions.
This year’s edition is scheduled to take place on Sunday morning in Bengaluru, drawing elite athletes, amateur runners and thousands of supporters.
Star ambassador announced
Celebrated Croatian athlete Blanka Vlašić has been named the International Event Ambassador.
A double Olympic medallist and former world champion, Vlašić is regarded as one of the finest high jumpers in history. Her personal best of 2.08 metres remains among the top performances of all time.
She is expected to arrive in the city on Thursday and will flag off the main event on Sunday.
