Call for a US Consulate in Bengaluru
A major point of discussion was establishing a US Consulate in Bengaluru. Kharge noted that such a move would boost trade and investment ties, streamline access to consular services, and foster cultural and educational exchanges. The consulate would also offer vital support to the American expatriate community in Bengaluru.
Kharge, speaking to reporters, shared that the US Ambassador assured him that setting up the consulate would be a priority. He believes this would create job opportunities for local residents and increase visa availability for students from Karnataka and South India.
Strengthening Karnataka-US Ties
Ambassador Garcetti emphasized the strategic importance of Bengaluru, which is now the world’s fourth-largest technology hub. He pointed out the similarities between the US and Karnataka in technology, noting Bengaluru’s global ranking in AI and the state’s leadership in sectors like biotechnology, aerospace, and defense. These factors make Karnataka an attractive destination for investment and business.
