A social media post highlighting alleged overcrowding in a school van in Bengaluru‘s KR Puram has once again raised concerns over the safety and regulation of school transport in the city.
The post, which has gained attention online, questioned how school vans and autorickshaws continue to operate with far more children than their permitted capacity despite repeated safety concerns.
Allegation of overcrowding
The individual who shared the post claimed to have seen 15 to 20 children crammed into a Maruti Omni van, comparing the situation to transporting cargo rather than schoolchildren.
The post also tagged the Bengaluru City Traffic Police, urging authorities to take action against what it described as an unsafe and unregulated practice.
“School vans and autos are the most unregulated mode of transport in the city. I have seen 15–20 kids stuffed inside one Omni van. How is this allowed?” the post stated.
The incident was reportedly observed in KR Puram.
Growing concerns over student safety
The post has triggered fresh discussions on social media about the need for stricter enforcement of safety norms for school transport vehicles.
Parents and residents have repeatedly expressed concerns over overcrowded school vans and autorickshaws, warning that such practices pose serious risks to children’s safety, particularly during emergencies or road accidents.
Many users called for regular inspections and stricter action against operators violating transport regulations.
Authorities urged to act
While the authenticity of the claim has not been independently verified, the viral post has prompted renewed calls for the Bengaluru City Traffic Police and transport authorities to intensify inspections of school vehicles.
Citizens have urged officials to ensure that school vans and autorickshaws comply with prescribed passenger limits and other safety norms to safeguard students during their daily commute.
