Bengaluru: Untimely rains in the District have resulted in the loss of vegetables and flowers grown by farmers. The District Administration has distributed compensation for the damaged horticultural crops and a survey is underway for another round of compensation.
Since last year, the rainfall in the District has increased and due to the recent torrential rains, the farmers have lost their horticulture crops due to water-logging. The ponds are full due to good rains. The farmers, who have grown flowers from a series of festivals, have been disappointed as they were hoping for a higher price. Vegetable and flower plants were cultivated on credit.
The District Administration has disbursed compensation for horticulture crops damaged due to rains in July and August this year. A survey will be launched for another round of relief. The Horticulture Department and the Revenue Department had conducted a joint survey in the District and submitted a report to the respective Taluk Tahasildars about the crop damage due to the rains in the last three to four months. The District Administration had submitted a report to the Government after examining it. On the basis of this, the horticulture crop farmers in 298 hectares in all the four taluks of the District has been given compensation, officials informed.
