Bengaluru: A noticeable dip in temperatures across Karnataka has brought a winter-like chill to Bengaluru and several parts of the state, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The latest IMD bulletin reported a marked fall in minimum temperatures, especially across South Interior Karnataka, where several regions recorded below-normal temperatures.
Bengaluru sees early winter onset
The city of Bengaluru has begun to experience mild winter conditions, with cooler mornings and pleasant afternoons. According to IMD data, Bengaluru City recorded a minimum temperature of 17.5°C, which is 1.2°C below normal for this time of year. Meanwhile, the Kempegowda International Airport (KIAL) area reported a minimum of 16.6°C, about 1°C below normal, indicating a clear shift towards early winter.
The IMD has forecast cold wave-like conditions for certain regions around Bengaluru, noting that skies are likely to remain clear over the next few days. Mornings are expected to be misty, followed by sunny and pleasant afternoons — typical of the city’s pre-winter climate.
Cold conditions spread across the state
Across Karnataka, Belagavi recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the plains at 11.2°C, signalling a stronger onset of cold weather in northern regions. Cold wave conditions are expected to persist over Bidar, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Bagalkote, and Kalaburagi for the next three to four days, the IMD bulletin stated.
Minimum temperatures in these areas are likely to remain 2°C to 3°C below normal, particularly at isolated locations across Interior Karnataka. Despite the chill, the IMD noted that dry weather will continue to dominate Coastal, North Interior, and South Interior Karnataka.
Clear skies and misty mornings ahead for Bengaluru
For Bengaluru and surrounding regions, the weather forecast suggests mainly clear skies for the next two days. Early mornings may see patchy mist or fog, while daytime conditions will remain sunny and comfortable.
The maximum temperature in the city is likely to hover around 29°C, while the minimum temperature will stay close to 17°C, maintaining the cool, pleasant atmosphere typical of early winter in the city.
Residents welcome the seasonal shift
Bengaluru residents have welcomed the drop in temperature after weeks of mild heat and humidity. Morning walkers and joggers across Lalbagh, Cubbon Park, and other public spaces have noted the crisp air and softer sunlight. Many citizens said this marks the start of the city’s most enjoyable season before the chill of December sets in.
Meteorologists added that such conditions are consistent with post-monsoon wind patterns and reduced moisture levels. “As the monsoon withdraws completely and northeasterly winds dominate, interior regions of Karnataka start cooling faster. These patterns indicate an early onset of winter-like weather,” an IMD official explained.
The department has also advised farmers in northern districts to monitor temperature-sensitive crops, especially in areas prone to cold wave conditions.
As Karnataka settles into this seasonal transition, clear skies, crisp mornings, and mild afternoons are expected to persist through the week, offering a refreshing break before the deeper chill of late November.
