The city witnessed a sharp drop in night temperature on Wednesday, recording one of the coldest February nights in recent years.

According to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bengaluru’s minimum temperature in February typically remains above 15°C. However, the city recorded a low of 14.4°C on Wednesday night.

Airport areas colder than city centre

The chill was more pronounced in other parts of the city. HAL Airport recorded a minimum of 12.9°C, while Kempegowda International Airport logged 12.8°C.

IMD scientists noted that minimum temperatures have been 2–3°C below normal for February, making the current dip unusual for this time of year.

Residents reported noticeably colder early mornings, with many stepping out in sweaters and jackets — a rare sight in mid-February.

Meteorologists said such fluctuations can occur due to changes in wind patterns and clear night skies, which allow heat to escape more rapidly.
