Relentless downpours have lashed Bengaluru, flooding over 500 homes and turning key city roads into virtual rivers. With 130 mm of rainfall recorded within 12 hours, it marks the second-highest single-day rain in a decade.
The torrential rains left residents struggling with traffic gridlock, submerged underpasses, and halted public transport. Areas like Koramangala, BTM Layout, HSR Layout, and Marathahalli were among the worst impacted.
But amid the chaos, the city’s netizens turned to humour, flooding social media with memes, irony, and satire. One viral video showed a man hauling a gas cylinder through waist-deep water, dubbed a “Bahubali moment.” Another meme joked, “Bengaluru has solved the pothole crisis—they’re all filled with rainwater now.”
Another witty take featured Sampangi Lake, joking it had reclaimed the Kanteerava Stadium, stating, “Nature always finds a way.”
Even ChatGPT joined the fun when asked to “roast Bengaluru.” The AI’s hilarious critique of the city’s infrastructure woes sparked a viral trend of digital digs.
Yet, the humour hides the hardship. Twenty lakes are on the brink of overflowing, and BMTC services were suspended, leaving commuters stuck.
Emergency crews and residents continue to battle waterlogging, even as the city chooses to laugh through the storm. In Bengaluru, the skies may open up, but so do the memes.
