Bengaluru Sisters in Sweat: Building a Women’s Sports Revolution
Bengaluru: Back in 2017, performance coach Swetha Subbiah was invited to lead a football session. To make it happen, she roped in her friend and former footballer, Tanvie Hans. Together, they reached out to their girlfriends, and what started as a casual kickabout turned into something bigger.
Realizing the potential for regular meet-ups, they created a WhatsApp group with 17 women passionate about football. Fast forward to today, and that humble group—now known as Sisters In Sweat—has grown into India’s largest women-led wellness and sports community.
On Sunday, Swetha and Tanvie orchestrated the nation’s largest women’s pickleball gathering at GoRally’s Indiranagar centre, drawing over 50 participants. With more than 6,000 active members in Bengaluru alone, SiS fosters female-friendly spaces for fitness and recreation. From basketball and football to cricket, rugby, tennis, and marathon runs, their sports offerings continue to expand.
“We understood how difficult it is for women in India to find like-minded groups for recreational sports,” shares Swetha. “So we built a safe, welcoming community.” SiS, which began in their cozy Cooke Town home, has now expanded to Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, seeing similar enthusiasm everywhere.
Tanvie adds, “Growing up, we lacked spaces like this, so we wanted to change that. Moving ahead, we’ll introduce more sports based on demand and extend to more cities.”
Despite their growth, their core mission remains unchanged—helping women find their place in sports.
