Bengaluru: It has been decided to submit a proposal to the Centre to handover the maintenance of new airports constructed under the UDAN scheme to the State Government including Mysuru, Raichur and Shivamogga, said Infrastructure Development Minister V. Somanna.
Speaking to mediapersons here, he said a meeting will be held with the Civili Aviation Minister in Delhi next week where the state’s proposal will be submitted. “If the Central Government provides its share of assistance for the maintenance of the new airports, the State Government will take care of them. This will also generate revenue for the State exchequer, he added.
“Mysuru and Kalaburagi airports are now operational and Raichur, Bidar and Shivamogga airports will be operational soon. Our demand is that the management of all these airports should be handed over to the State Government,” he said and added that there is a plan to construct mini airports for the development of tourism in the State. It has been asked to conduct a study in Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu and Hassan and prepare an action plan, he informed.
