The Karnataka government is establishing Bengaluru Smart Mobility Infrastructure Ltd (BSMIL) to oversee large-scale infrastructure projects, easing the burden on the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). After being relieved of solid waste management duties, BBMP will now also step back from handling major urban development initiatives.

BSMIL will spearhead critical projects such as elevated roads, flyovers, and tunnel roads. The state government plans to introduce a Bill in the upcoming budget session to formalize the entity, ensuring it operates independently—much like the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

Additionally, BSMIL will absorb the functions of Smart City Limited, which is set to be dissolved. This restructuring aims to streamline project execution, improve urban planning, and accelerate Bengaluru’s infrastructure development.
