After functioning from Jayanagar for over four decades, the Bengaluru South Regional Transport Office (KA-05), popularly known as Jayanagar RTO, has been relocated to its own building in Anjanapura on Kanakapura Road. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated the Rs 11-crore facility on Saturday, calling it a “spacious and well-equipped office” that will now serve one of the city’s busiest RTOs.
The South RTO, established in 1980, first operated from the BDA Complex in Jayanagar 4th Block before shifting to the BMTC TTMC building opposite it 11 years ago. Officials explained that moving to Anjanapura will save substantial rental costs while offering better infrastructure, parking, and amenities. The new office spans 38,793 square metres at Survey No. 64, Uttarahalli Hobli, near NICE Road.
Authorities clarified that the relocation will not inconvenience the public, as most services—such as applying for learner’s licences and vehicle registrations—are available online. Driving licence tests will continue at the Jnanabharathi track, ensuring no change in procedures. Currently, the Bengaluru South RTO oversees 70 driving schools and 36 pollution testing centres within its jurisdiction.
In recent years, multiple RTOs in Bengaluru have moved out of ageing BDA complexes due to poor maintenance and limited facilities. Bengaluru East RTO (earlier Indiranagar) shifted to Kasturi Nagar, Koramangala RTO (Central) relocated to HSR Layout, and Yelahanka RTO moved near Singanayakanahalli. Officials noted that owning dedicated buildings not only improves public convenience but also strengthens the transport department’s long-term financial sustainability.
