Bengaluru: The Lokayukta has initiated Suo Motu proceedings against 10 BBMP-run hospitals following deficiencies observed during a recent surprise visit. Officials and doctors have been requested to respond and detail the measures they have taken to address the reported malpractice.
The Secretary to Government, the department In-Charge of urban development, the BBMP Chief Commissioner, BBMP Special Commissioner for Health, and the BBMP Chief Health Officer (CHO) are among the officials who have been asked to report to the Lokayukta with their response before October 20.
During the Lokayukta’s surprise visit, some of the main observations included poor maintenance, a lack of cleanliness and hygiene, and a shortage of staff and medicine.
According to sources, 18 officials from government hospitals, including the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases and the Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health, and those run by the BBMP, have been requested to respond.
