The mysterious disappearance of a Bengaluru techie concluded with an unexpected twist when police located him at a mall near Noida on Thursday evening. The techie, who had been missing since August 4, was found leaving the mall after watching a movie, leading to his return to Bengaluru the next morning.
The techie, a North Bengaluru resident, had left home claiming he was going to an ATM but did not return, prompting his wife to express her concern on social media and accuse the police of inadequate efforts. Her posts, which gained significant attention, led to intensified search efforts.
Despite the techie having switched off his mobile phone, police traced him after he purchased a new SIM card in Noida and used it in his old phone. Authorities reviewed numerous CCTV footage from bus stands, railway stations, and the airport to find him.
When confronted by plainclothes officers outside the mall, the techie initially refused to return to Bengaluru, expressing his willingness to face imprisonment rather than go back. It took several hours of persuasion before he agreed to return, primarily to close the missing person complaint filed by his wife.
Upon his return, the techie alleged that he fled to escape what he described as abusive behavior from his wife. He claimed that she restricted his freedom, imposed strict conditions on his lifestyle, and subjected him to verbal abuse. He detailed his journey from Bengaluru to Tirupati, then Bhubaneswar, and finally to Noida, altering his appearance to avoid recognition.
In response, his wife vehemently denied the allegations, calling them unfounded. She explained that while their marriage had its issues, the claims of abuse were false. Her social media posts, she said, were driven by genuine concern for his safety.
