In a surprising turn of events, Bengaluru traffic police uncovered a scooter with a fake registration number plate during a routine traffic stop. The incident occurred on January 24 when Ashok Nagar traffic police sub-inspector Dinesh and head constable Deepak M flagged down a scooter rider for using his mobile phone while riding.

Upon entering the vehicle’s registration number, KA-53-EB-2209, into their Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), the system flagged the scooter as a “suspect vehicle.” The PDA, equipped with the ability to detect fake registration numbers, indicated that the number belonged to a different vehicle. Dinesh then contacted the Traffic Management Centre (TMC) to verify the registration details. The TMC confirmed that the registration number was originally assigned to a Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle, which had been associated with several traffic violations.

The actual motorcycle owner, who had received violation notices, was unaware of the misuse of his registration number and had previously reported the issue to the TMC.

The scooterist, identified as Manoj Kumar from Mulbagal in Kolar district, explained that the scooter was provided to him by his employer, the owner of a phenyl company, and that he was unaware of the fake registration. His employer, who had been using the scooter for eight years, claimed it belonged to a friend.

Authorities have assured that appropriate action will be taken against the individual responsible for using the fake registration plate.
