Bengaluru tuition teacher arrested after 44-day kidnapping ordeal
A 30-year-old tuition teacher who had kidnapped his 15-year-old student and evaded authorities for 44 days was finally traced and arrested within three days of a police-issued lookout notice. The girl has been safely rescued.
Abhishek M Gowda, a resident of JP Nagar I Phase in south Bengaluru, was apprehended on Monday under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, and was sent to Central Prison. Originally from Harohalli in Ramanagara district, Abhishek had worked as both a gym trainer and a tuition teacher for students in classes 1 to 10. The victim had been attending his tuition classes for the past four years.
Abhishek, who is married with a two-year-old daughter, allegedly abducted the girl on November 23, 2024. He left behind a message, claiming he was in love with her and was running away with her. He had also told neighbors that he had distanced himself from his wife and daughter due to personal issues.
The situation remained unresolved until January 3, when the JP Nagar police issued a lookout notice. The two had been living in a rented house in Malavalli near Mandya, where they posed as a newlywed couple. The house owner, upon seeing the lookout notice on television, contacted the police, leading to the girl’s rescue. Despite being offered a reward of ₹25,000 for the tip-off, the house owner and his friend declined the money, stating they had only done the right thing in helping the girl.
