Bengaluru: Believe it or not, in Bengaluru city, every day 18 two-wheelers are stolen.
The data furnished by the city police between 2017 and 2018 shows that an average 18 two-wheeler theft incidents are reported every day.
According to the police, in the year 2015, as many as 5,345 two-wheeler theft incidents were reported. It went up to 5,842 in 2016 and 6,157 in 2017. In January 2018, a total of 446 bikes were stolen across the city and out of them, only 68 were traced. “Compared to the four-wheelers, two-wheelers are the easy target of thieves. Almost 60% of the theft happened when the bikes were parked with handle lock,” said an officer.
According to the police, new two-wheelers have facilities like GPS tracking system which are affordable for one and all. “Every day bike thieves are arrested but by the time we arrest them they sell the stolen bikes to multiple persons. So it is a tough job to track the stolen bikes,” concedes police.
