BENGALURU: The Badarahalli police have arrested two individuals for allegedly defrauding a West Bengal-based businessman of ₹1.57 crore in a medical seat scam. The accused, identified as Virupakshappa and Manjappa, promised to secure a medical college seat for the businessman’s daughter.
The incident occurred in 2022 when the businessman, seeking admission for his daughter in a prestigious Bengaluru medical college, was approached by the accused, who claimed to have high-level connections with the institution’s management and the Medical Education Department.
Trusting their claims, the businessman transferred ₹1.57 crore to the accused. However, the duo disappeared after receiving the money, failing to secure the promised seat. The businessman then filed a complaint, leading to an investigation and the eventual arrest of the suspects.
The police are currently conducting further inquiries into the matter. This case brings attention to the rising issue of medical seat scams, where fraudsters exploit parents desperate to secure college admissions for their children.
