In a significant development for urban infrastructure, Bengaluru has introduced its inaugural double-decker flyover, expected to revolutionize commuting between Ragigudda and Silk Board. The 3.3 km flyover, costing Rs 449 crore, aims to enhance travel convenience for over 50,000 daily commuters. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and state Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy inaugurated this landmark project, which integrates both road and metro functionalities.

Key Features of the Double-Decker Flyover:

  • First of Its Kind: Southern India’s maiden double-decker road, setting a new standard in urban infrastructure.
  • Enhanced Convenience: Improves accessibility between Ragigudda and Silk Board, reducing travel time from 30-40 minutes to just 5-6 minutes.
  • Length and Cost: Spans 3.3 km, with a construction cost of Rs 449 crore, aimed at alleviating longstanding congestion issues.
  • Elevated Construction: The flyover stands 8 meters above ground level, while the metro yellow line is positioned 16 meters high.
  • Daily Traffic: Serves over 50,000 vehicles daily, incorporating five ramps to enhance connectivity to Hosur Road, HSR Layout, and BTM Layout.
  • Reduced Travel Time: The new flyover significantly shortens travel times, optimizing commuter efficiency.

Introduction of Metro Yellow Line:

The flyover, extending from Ragigudda Metro Station to Silkboard Junction, will soon be complemented by the Yellow Line Metro. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) anticipates the metro line’s inauguration by December this year, further enhancing the city’s public transport network.

Enhanced Connectivity via Flyover Ramps:

  • Ramp A: Connects Ragigudda Metro Station to Hosur Road.
  • Ramp B: Provides access to HSR Layout.
  • Ramp C: Facilitates travel from BTM Layout to both Hosur Road and HSR Layout, bypassing Silk Board Junction and improving traffic flow.
