Bengaluru: State Education Minister B. C. Nagesh has clarified the controversy surrounding the State Government’s plan to build and paint the walls of 8,000 government schools in saffron colour as part of the project “Viveka Classrooms.”
Speaking to mediapersons he said, “There is no going back if the architect suggests that the saffron colour looks good on the walls of the schools. The architect makes the colour selection, not the government.”
“Some people are allergic to the colour saffron. Therefore, they are making a big deal out of it. Their political party flag has saffron colour in it. Why have they not changed? I advise they colour it completely in green,” he said mocking the Congress party.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai criticised Congress over the issue and said, “This is cheap politics. It is not ethical to colour every issue, politically. Why are they so outraged over saffron? Doesn’t our tricolour include saffron? We gave Swami Vivekananda’s name to the schools. His name ‘Vivek’ means knowledge. He was a saint and wore saffron robe.”
