Bengaluru [Karnataka]: A Bengaluru man’s social media post praising a woman auto driver who came to his rescue late at night has gone viral, highlighting an inspiring act of kindness in the city.
Passenger stranded in Indiranagar
Varun Agarwal shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he was stranded in Indiranagar when no cabs were available, and several auto drivers refused to take him to Koramangala. Agarwal wrote, “I must have walked for almost a kilometre when I found this lady auto driver parked on the side of the road.”
Despite being late and heading home, the driver insisted on taking him to Koramangala. Agarwal recalled, “As I turned to walk away she called me back and said it’s ok, she will take me home. I told her it’s ok, I’ll find some other auto, but she insisted and took me all the way.”
Fair fare and generosity
Agarwal had not discussed the fare beforehand, but based on typical Uber charges, he expected to pay around Rs 300. The woman auto driver, however, asked for only Rs 200, reflecting her generosity. Agarwal wrote, “I told her it’s too less but she said it’s ok. I insisted on paying 300. This was probably one of the best auto experiences I’ve had in recent time. We need more women auto drivers.”
Social media reaction
The post quickly garnered widespread attention, with users praising the woman driver’s kindness and dedication. One user wrote, “She saw the helplessness in you. Only a mother’s heart can truly feel that pain. Good people are mostly god-sent.”
Another user commented, “The fact that this happened in Bengaluru, where the autowallahs can be really scary, is such a pleasant change. An example of good feminism!”
Others highlighted that Bengaluru’s auto drivers are often courteous and compassionate, providing a contrast to other cities.
Conclusion
The viral post has sparked conversations about women in unconventional professions and their ability to challenge stereotypes while performing acts of service. Agarwal’s experience showcases empathy, honesty, and professionalism in public transport, inspiring many on social media to appreciate and support women auto drivers in India.
