Bengaluru: A 45-year-old woman pedestrian was killed after being run over by a speeding goods vehicle in the busy Cottonpete area on Friday evening, police said on Saturday.

The victim, identified as Anjadevi, a resident of Cottonpete, was walking along Mill Road with another woman around 5.30 pm when the incident occurred. CCTV footage showed the goods vehicle approaching from behind at high speed before mowing her down.

The second woman walking with Anjadevi had a miraculous escape, sustaining only minor injuries, according to a senior police officer.

Vehicle damages seven others after accident

After running over the pedestrian, the goods vehicle lost control and rammed into seven other vehicles parked and moving along the road — four two-wheelers and three cars were damaged in the process, police said.

Driver arrested

The case has been registered at the Chamarajapete Traffic Police Station. Police confirmed that the driver of the goods vehicle has been arrested and further investigation is underway.
