Bengaluru Woman’s Viral Flatmate Search Post Sparks Debate on Preferences
A Bengaluru woman’s post on X (formerly Twitter) about finding a flatmate has gone viral, attracting attention for her specific preferences regarding potential roommates. She is seeking a flatmate for a one room in her fully furnished 3BHK apartment in Wilson Garden, with the criteria that the person “won’t mind guests, pets, loud music, alcohol or smoke” and is preferably vegetarian and Hindi-speaking.
In her post, she detailed the room’s amenities, including a big bed, mattress, air conditioning, and an attached washroom with a balcony, all for a rent of ₹17,000 with a deposit of ₹70,000. She humorously added, “this is a steal deal tbh,” mentioning her own quirks as a “clean freak” and the fact that she will still be living in the apartment.
Her post has garnered about 1.5 million views, with reactions mixed between praise for her creativity and criticism for perceived discrimination in her preferences. Many questioned the allowance of alcohol and smoking but not non-vegetarian food. One user commented, “Alcohol/smoking is ok, but nonveg is not?”
Responding to the backlash, the woman clarified that her preference is rooted in comfort and peace in the household, stating, “I don’t mind any form of cooked food but I am a vegetarian and hence can’t stand the sight of raw meat.”
While some users defended her right to set preferences in her shared space, others challenged her criteria, particularly the Hindi-speaking requirement in a city like Bengaluru, encouraging her to embrace local culture and language.
