A growing number of women in Bengaluru—especially unmarried and career-focused professionals—are opting for egg freezing to take charge of their reproductive timelines. Fertility experts say this shift reflects a rise in awareness, lifestyle changes, and societal acceptance, with even some married women considering the procedure during personal transitions.
A 31-year-old UX consultant, for instance, pursued egg freezing after social pressure over her single status. For her, the choice ensures she doesn’t lose the option of starting a family later. A 33-year-old corporate employee shared the decision with her husband, seeing it as a proactive step amid her demanding work life.
Fertility specialists like Dr Sharvari Mundhe (Sarjapur) and Dr Apurva Satish Amarnath (Yelahanka and Kalyan Nagar) confirm that most of their patients are women between 27 and 36, often unmarried and working in high-pressure jobs. Some seek the option after breakups or during unstable relationships, wanting to preserve fertility without immediate plans for parenthood.
Dr Vidya V Bhat (Banashankari IVF centre) has seen a 25% rise in egg freezing inquiries over five years, especially among 29-year-olds. She attributes the trend to increased media coverage and celebrity influence, which have made the procedure more socially acceptable.
Medical professionals emphasize the ideal age for egg freezing is 20–33, with procedures becoming safer, minimally invasive, and now even covered under premium corporate insurance plans. The Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, 2022, permits egg storage for up to 10 years for women aged 21 to 50.
With more awareness and accessibility, egg freezing is rapidly becoming a practical and empowering choice for Bengaluru’s modern women.
