Bengaluru: Anuradha Muthappa Rai, the second wife of late underworld figure Muthappa Rai, was questioned for nearly five hours by Ramanagara police on Sunday over the recent attack on his son, Ricky Rai.
Appearing before the Bidadi police at 11 am, 52-year-old Anuradha maintained her innocence, telling reporters afterward: “I have no connection with this case. I trust the police will deliver justice.” She confirmed her last meeting with Ricky was in October, during a court appearance to finalize property settlement papers, and added she is ready to cooperate further if summoned again.
Ricky Rai, 33, was shot at close range while driving near his residence in Bidadi in the early hours of April 19. So far, police have arrested Vittal Monappa, a former gatekeeper at Ricky’s home and an ex-gunman for Muthappa Rai, who had served the family for over 30 years.
The case has reopened old wounds in the Rai family. After the death of Muthappa’s first wife, Rekha Rai, in 2013, he married Anuradha in 2016. Following Muthappa’s passing in 2020, disputes over property between Anuradha and his children led to court battles.
Investigators are probing whether the property feud had any link to the attack on Ricky.
The case continues to unfold amid high public interest.
