BENGALURU: The service roads on both sides of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) between Kasturi Nagar and Hebbal are in severe disrepair, presenting significant challenges for commuters. Navigating through deep potholes, open drains, uncleared debris, and overflowing manholes is a daily struggle. The situation worsens with rain, turning parts of the road into temporary streams.

While the main ORR carriageway is generally in good condition, the service roads have been neglected. Recent inspections reveal hazardous conditions, particularly for two-wheeler riders. Some potholes are so large that even BMTC buses attempt to avoid them. The intersections at Veerannapalya, Nagawara, and Kalyan Nagar, located below the split flyovers, are particularly problematic.

Veteran Wing Commander AKS Bishnoi criticized the BBMP for its inaction despite numerous complaints. He pointed out that previous repairs were ineffective due to poor-quality materials. The service roads also lack proper footpaths, and uncleaned drains have resulted in open slabs for rainwater discharge. Debris and garbage are often left unattended, with some stretches, especially from Kalyan Nagar to Babusapalaya, devoid of asphalt. The road from Nagawara to Hebbal is especially neglected.

Gangamma, who runs an eatery in HBR Layout, noted that recent flooding had driven away customers and created a mosquito breeding ground. Although some BBMP workers have been seen making efforts, about 80% of the service roads remain in urgent need of repair. A regular commuter reported counting 1,000 potholes on both sides of the ORR service road.
