Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar, revealed on Sunday that the state government is committing ₹1,700 crore to enhance Bengaluru’s road network, elevating it to global standards. This move is part of a comprehensive plan to develop world-class infrastructure across the city.

Shivakumar, who also manages Bengaluru’s development initiatives, recently conducted an inspection of ongoing road construction projects to evaluate their quality and progress. He highlighted that white-topping work is being carried out on 97 roads, covering an expansive 150 km stretch. “We are focusing on constructing long-lasting roads with input from multiple urban bodies. These roads will feature dedicated ducts for power and communication lines, preventing the need for future road disruptions,” he stated.

With an emphasis on both speed and excellence, Shivakumar outlined that the project has a strict 11-month deadline. In its next phase, an additional 450 km will undergo white-topping, bringing the total upgraded road network to 1,700 km.

Regarding his inspection, Shivakumar mentioned, “My visit is aimed at ensuring efficient coordination between various agencies and making sure the budget is used effectively while meeting our goals.”

Additionally, in response to concerns about Bengaluru’s tunnel road project, Shivakumar defended the initiative, stating that just as tunnels are constructed in Maharashtra, there is no reason why Bengaluru should be excluded.

The government also plans to address water supply challenges through the Cauvery 5th stage project, assuring citizens of reliable access to water.
