In a recent focused operation, Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) registered 668 drunk driving cases and 185 speeding violations across the city. Officers inspected 43,253 vehicles across 53 traffic stations, uncovering 668 instances of driving under the influence. Meanwhile, 185 motorists were fined a total of ₹1,89,000 for overspeeding.
Throughout 2024, authorities booked 23,620 drunk driving offenses, with September alone accounting for 4,284 cases — the year’s peak. Since then, weekly checks from Thursday to Sunday have become routine. As of March 2025, 9,866 cases had already been recorded, averaging about 110 cases per day. March witnessed 3,467 cases alone.
JB Nagar Traffic Police Station, overseeing Indiranagar, Domlur, SV Road, and Kodihalli, saw 819 cases, with numbers still climbing. Stations in HSR Layout, Madiwala, Bellandur, Adugodi, and Mico Layout also reported 300-385 cases each, based on live BTP data.
T Mahadeva, Additional Commissioner (Traffic, Southeast), attributed the surge to the area’s vibrant nightlife, colleges, offices, and weekend visitors from Tamil Nadu. An officer from Madiwala Traffic Station highlighted that intensified checks have notably reduced alcohol-related crashes.
Regarding speeding, 6,878 violations were recorded by March-end, with Devanahalli Traffic Police accounting for 1,848 cases along the Kempegowda International Airport expressway. Mysuru Road, NICE Road, and Hosur Road also saw high numbers due to their long stretches and heavy nighttime traffic.
