A recent social media post by Bengaluru resident Ranganath Kempaiah has sparked a flood of nostalgic reactions, showcasing the remarkable transformation of the city over the years. On Facebook, Kempaiah shared a striking “then and now” comparison, featuring Nanjappa Circle in Vidyaranyapura from 1985 alongside a current image from 2024. The two photos reveal the dramatic shift in the city’s landscape.
Kempaiah’s post was accompanied by the caption, “40 years apart, same place, endless memories,” reflecting on how much has changed over the decades. The 1985 image features a Karnataka government bus traveling along a circular road surrounded by three serene lakes, while the modern-day picture from 2024 highlights the area’s bustling traffic, widened roads, and the towering presence of buildings and infrastructure.
The post quickly captured attention, with many Bengaluru residents reminiscing about the area’s earlier days. Some noted how much the region had changed, with one user commenting, “This was a lake bed, and now, so much construction.” Kempaiah himself responded to these reflections, explaining that much of the area was built on critical water beds, explaining why Vaishnavi Enclave and nearby areas face waterlogging even today.
The comparison has stirred a conversation about the rapid urbanization of Bengaluru, with many expressing both fondness for its past and concern over its environmental impact.
