Bengaluru’s eagerly awaited Yellow Line of Namma Metro, linking RV Road with Bommasandra, is scheduled to begin operations by May 2025. This announcement came from Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister, DK Shivakumar, following a query from Bommanahalli MLA M Satish Reddy during a legislative session.

Stretching 19.1 kilometers, the Yellow Line will improve connectivity between southern Bengaluru and the dynamic Electronics City, a hub for tech firms. With 16 stations, this line will help ease traffic congestion, particularly around Central Silk Board, which is notorious for bottlenecks.

In addition, the minister provided updates on the Pink Line, set to run from Kalena Agrahara (Gottigere) to Nagawara. The 21.2-kilometer stretch includes 7.5 kilometers of elevated tracks and 13.7 kilometers underground. The elevated section, from Kalena Agrahara to Tavarekere, is expected to be completed by December 2025, while the underground stretch will be finished by December 2026.

Furthermore, Bengaluru Metro is preparing to introduce its first driverless trains on the Yellow Line. The prototype has already been inspected by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), and final approvals are awaited. Once in service, these automated trains will revolutionize the city’s transportation system, promising enhanced efficiency and comfort. However, recent fare hikes have made metro rides increasingly costly for passengers.
