Bengaluru: The recent incident of renowned director Sanjay Leela Bhansali being attacked by fringe outfit Karni Sena members has stirred a debate over Twitter.
Famous historian Ramachandra Guha condemned the attack on Bhansali on sets of latter’s upcoming film Padmavathi in Jaipur, Rajasthan. On Saturday, Guha used his twitter account to condemn the incident and said that no major politician-Left, Right or Centre–has ever defended writers or artists against Goondas.
“That is a deep failure of our democracy. The apologies for the goondas who attacked Bhansali and his crew are sickening to this Indian, this Hindu. And surely to many others too. Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje attends the Jaipur Literature Festival. Will she squarely condemn the vandalism against artists in her state?,” he questioned.
“I hope my friend TV Mohandas Pai who works a lot with Rajasthan and its Government comes out to condemn the vandalism in that state today,” he added.
When few people who are following him on twitter questioned his selective criticism he hit back by stating I have often attacked the Left for persecuting Taslima- here’s a piece from 6-7 years ago.
Replying to Mr. Guha’s tweet, Mr. Mohandas Pai tweeted: “I strongly condemn this attack on Bhansali. Rajasthan Chief Minister has always ensured rule of law. Very confident that miscreants will be dealt.”
But this tweet war didn’t stop here. When few of his twitter followers posed few more questions to Pai he hit back by writing: True the leftist media peddled lies on this: every citizen has right to court, this is not any intolerance.
But one of his followers named Nikhil Wagle went one step ahead by suggesting Pai to join Vishwa Hindu Parishat (VHP). Wagle tweeted that I think you (Pai) have lost it! Join VHP.
