Bengaluru: In a big relief to the state government, which is finding it tough to manage the surge in the Covid-19 cases, the Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) numbering over 42,000 across the state decided to drop their protest.
They announced withdrawal of the protest after health minister B Sreeramulu promised that a decision on their salary hike will be taken in two days.
ASHA activists are considered as the frontline warriors of Covid-19. They conduct door-to-door health survey and awareness drives.
For the last two weeks, they have been holding a protest demanding increase in their salary to Rs.12,000 per month, from the existing Rs.9,000.
Minister Sreeramulu, who met the ASHA workers’ union members announced that he will discuss their demands with the CM and announce the government decision soon.
After that ASHA workers decided to withdraw their protest.
