Bengaluru: The Janata Dal (Secular), which has tied up with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the State Assembly elections, has described the results of the byelections to the three Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as indicative of a trend favouring regional parties.
JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy said the victory would be a morale booster for his party workers as well as the BSP workers. He said there was a trend against the BJP and the Congress in Karnataka.
The victory of the Samajwadi Party in the byelections to the two Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Gorakhpur which was vacated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, and that of the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar is setting the stage for consolidation of regional parties against the two national parties ahead of the parliamentry elections, he said.
Congratulating the former Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav, he tweeted, “Regional parties have had an upper hand in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Nationally, regional parties are being preferred. This is an example as to how regional interests can be safeguarded only by regional parties.”
