Bengaluru: With the motive of helping Kannadigas to fulfill their dreams of working in private sector companies, the State government is planning to make suitable changes to the Karnataka Industrial Employment (Standing Orders) Rules of 1961.
According to Labour Minister Santosh Lad the draft amendments have been under the scrutiny of the Law Department and will be submitted for consideration of the Cabinet within two months. Lad also said the quota will help to ensure that Kannadigas should be considered as the first choice for the quota and non-Kannadigas could be accommodated only in case of non-availability of a Kannadiga for the post.
There will be exemptions for the companies setting up their units in Karnataka and a survey will be undertaken to know the number of jobs available, he informed.
Clarifying on the reports in a section of the media that the state government is set to seek 100 per cent job reservation for Kannadigas in blue collar jobs, Lad said the draft bill seeks to reserve 50 per cent of C and D category jobs and 20 per cent of A and B category jobs to Kannadigas. However, the proposed quota would not be applicable to the IT, BT sectors, he added.
