Bengaluru: The BJP’s state unit has filed a complained against Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy with the Chief Electoral Officer for violating the model code of conduct before the bypolls.

The CM was recently in Mandya to campaign for JD(S) candidate Shivarame Gowda.

In their complaint, Sanjiv Kumar, BJP leaders A H Anand and Dattaguru Hegde alleged that HDK violated the model code of conduct while he was in Mandya, where he promised that after the bypolls, he would issue debt-free certificates to the top beneficiaries of the loan waiver scheme.

They further accused the government of using gimmicks to influence the voters. They have asked the Chief Election Officer to ensure that the CM refrain from making more of such announcements before the by-elections on November 3.
