Bengaluru: Tension prevailed on Hosur Road when a group of rowdies hacked a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to death on Tuesday morning. The police have identified the victim as Srinivas Prasad alias Kittiganahalli Vau (38), a councilor of Bommasandra municipal corporation and a staunch follower of Anekal MLA A Narayana Swamy. The body was found near BTL College.

It is the second murder of BJP activists in Bengaluru within a span of five months. Rudresh, a RSS activist was hacked to death on October 16 in a broad daylight at Shivajinagar in Bengaluru.

Vehicular traffic on busy Hosur Road was affected when hundreds of BJP activists staged a protest demanding police take immediate action against the culprits responsible for the murder. They suspect political rivalry as the main reason for the murder. Police resorted to a mild lathicharge when the protesters refused to withdraw the agitation and ensure smooth movement of vehicular traffic.

Meanwhile, B S Yeddyurappa, BJP state president, has condemned Srinivas Prasad’ murder and demanded the police to arrest the culprits immediately. “I strongly condemn Srinivasa Prasad’s murder. It is an indication of complete failure of law and order in the state,’’ Yeddyurappa tweeted.

Speaking to media persons at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, Dr G Parameshwara, Minister of Home and also KPCC president, said the police are investigating the case and he could not tell anything on the murder at this stage. “Some people are politicizing the murder of Srinviasa Prasad. I am against it because a murder is a murder and a culprit is a culprit irrespective of his political affiliations. Law will take its course. I have given strict instructions to police to take action as per law,’’ Dr Parameshwara said.

According to Seemant Kumar Singh, Inspector General of Police, Central Range, the deceased, Srinivas Prasad arrived to the spot in a Innova car and he was killed by an unknown person at 5 am on Tuesday. “We have formed special police teams to nab the culprits. Some people are alleging political rivalry as the main cause for the murder and some people are telling that real estate disputes might be a reason for the murder. We are looking into all angles to ascertain the reason for the murder,’’ Singh said.
