BJP announces DCM Savadi as candidate for Legislative Council by-polls

Bengaluru: The BJP gave a ticket to DCM Laxman Savadi on Saturday, February 1, to contest in the February 17 state Legislative Council by-election.

Former minister R Shankar was also a ticket aspirant.

It can be recalled that he Council seat fell vacant after Congress leader Rizwan Arshad was elected to the Legislative Assembly. The term for the seat will end on June 14, 2022.

The Election Commission, on January 27, had announced that a by-poll for the vacant seat would be held on February 17, counting for which would be held on the same day.

Savadi, who lost in the 2018 state Assembly elections from the Athani constituency, was made one of three Deputy Chief Minister in the B S Yediyurappa-led state government.

As per the constitutional obligation, he supposed to become a member of either House of the State Legislature by February end, to continue as the DCM.
