Bengaluru: The Karnataka BJP seems to be embarassed after Sandalwood actor Ragini Dwivedi was arrested by the Central Crime Banch, on Friday for her alleged involvement in the major drug racket that was unearthed in the state.
It may be recalled that Ragini actively participated in the door-to-door campaigns of the BJP as a star campaigner for BJP MLA Narayan Gowda from KR Pete constituency, who is now the state minister for Horticulture, Municipal Administration and Sericulture.
It is said that in many of her interviews, she had expressed her desire to join the party too. Ragini is also the branch ambassador for the Swach Bharat Mission from Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corproation.
The Kannada actor’s photographs and videos with Vijayendra Yeddyurappa, BJP Karnataka’s vice-president and Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa’s son, have also gone viral on social media after her arrest, in which she is seen taking part in campaigning.
Soon after Ragini’s arrest, many took to social media to even claim that she is the member of the BJP. However, now the BJP has opted to distance itself from Ragini after the claims were made on social media.
Senior BJP leader C.T. Ravi, has said that the party has no links with the actor.
“She is neither a party karyakarta nor has she been given any responsibility in the party. The BJP has no connection with her,” Ravi told theprint.in
On 21 August, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had busted a major drug racket and arrested three men who were allegedly supplying illegal drugs to celebrities and VVIPs in the state.
