BJP leader accused of sexually assaulting woman, complaint filed

Bengaluru: A woman from Chitradurga has lodged a sexual assault case against a BJP leader five years after the incident occured.

According to reports, the woman in the complaint stated that BJP leader Venkatesh Maurya came in contact with her in 2010 and introduced himself as a BJP leader and a member of the National Executive Council of BJP’s SC Morcha. The complainant who runs an NGO, was promised by the accused that he would help her get government grants for the NGO.

An official, said, “In November 2011, the accused allegedly called her to a hotel in Gandhinagar, saying that a government meeting related to NGOs was going on there. When the woman went there, he allegedly raped her. Later, he promised to marry her and allegedly took Rs 35 lakh and jewellery from her. Only, a few years later, the woman realised that the accused was married and had two children, as per her complaint,”

According to sources the duo had a relationship and their financial dispute was that led to the sexual assault complaint now.

However, Upparpet police have been directed to register an FIR by the city court after a private complaint was filed before it. Further investigation is on.
