BJP MLA R Munirathna, along with six others, has been accused of forcibly demolishing the homes of around 60 daily wage laborer families in a slum near Akkamahadevi Layout, Peenya, north Bengaluru. Police filed a case at the RMC Yard station on Monday following a complaint from one of the victims.
The complainant alleged that Munirathna and his associates arrived with a JCB machine, supervising the demolition without prior notice. Residents were reportedly threatened to vacate and return to North Karnataka. During the incident, families claimed to have lost cash ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹70,000 per household and about 30 grams of gold.
The FIR also alleges physical assault, particularly targeting women. Some were reportedly dragged, kicked with footwear, and harassed as they pleaded for mercy.
The accused face charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including criminal intimidation, assault, and mischief, as well as provisions from the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Ordinance, 2014.
Police have launched an investigation, promising further action based on evidence. The incident has sparked outrage over alleged misuse of power and its impact on vulnerable communities.
