Bengaluru: When the State Assembly elections are fast approaching, a new campaign designed by the state BJP to sew an emotional bond with the farmers- ‘Raitha Bandhu Yeddyurappa’, would witness the participation of around 6,000 farmers.

Speaking to media persons here in BJP office, MP Shobha Karandlaje said that under the programme, ‘Raitha Mithras’ (farmer friends) appointed to each village will visit the houses of farmers and collect a handful of rice or corn (in North Karnataka) and also take an oath from the farmers that they will not end life even under dire situation so.

As per the campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 27 at Davangere, a kit would be presented to the Raitha Mithra. They should conduct a meeting in the Gram Panchayat centre, give assurance to them and administer the oath. If the local leaders show interest in joining the BJP, they should be welcomed with a shawl, she said.

The collected rice and corn will be cooked on the occasion of programmes which will be conducted in the district-centres. These programmes will be held between March 12 and 15. On the occasion leaders and farmers will have a lunch together (Sahabhojana). Yeddyurappa will participate in the event in any one village, she said.
