Bengaluru: When the whole country was celebrating the new year on Monday night, a blind cricketer celebrated the occasion in a unique way. Instead of enjoying with his friends, the Padma Shri award-winning blind cricketer Shekhar Naik visited every nook and corner of the city and distributed blankets to the destitute who were sleeping on the road.

Shekhar Naik, who originally hails from Shivamogga city, presently resides in Bengaluru. He was awarded the Padma Shri award earlier this year. Naik is a former captain of the India national blind cricket team who led the team to victory at the T20 Blind Cricket World Cup in 2012 and the Blind Cricket World Cup in 2014.

Naik, along with his friends and family members, visited K R Market, V V Pura, J P Nagar and the surrounding areas with food packs and blankets and distributed them to the needy. Nail informed that it is his duty to help the needy who are not able to get two square meals a day.
