Bengaluru: Bengaluru (Central) DCP, Chethan Singh Rathore has been lauded by the public for his unique handling of the protesters at the Town Hall on Thursday, December 20.
Rathore, in a bid to convince the protesters to leave the area and end their protest peacefully, began to sing the national anthem over the public address system. When he began to sing, the protesters rose up as a sign of respect. They later agreed to end their agitation and vacate the area.
In this way, Rathore ensured that the situation did not escalate or deteriorate. Prior to singing the national anthem, when the protesters were refusing to leave, he tried to inform them how these kinds of agitations could encourage anti-social elements to use the situation to their advantage.

Speaking to a television news channel, Rathore said that he began to sing the national anthem because he did not want the protest to go in the wrong direction. He said that he felt that it was his only option to ensure that the protest ended in a peaceful manner.
As it stands, section 144 of the CrPC is still in force in Karnataka. Mangaluru is still seeing a curfew as there have been instances of stone pelting and lathi charge, a day after two protesters were killed in police firing.
