Bengaluru: The city police have arrested five persons in a remote village in Rajasthan for cheating over 200 persons by using the names of senior police officers, politicians etc. to misuse QR codes for digital payment.
The arrested are Karan Singh, Mehajir Khan, Jameel, Akram Khan and Haris Khan. These accused are arrested from a remote village in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur with the help of the local police.
According to Bengaluru City Commissioner of Police Bhaskar Rao, the scope of the investigation has been expanded as these accused are believed to have duped hundreds of people and that the gang might be operating their racket from several states.
Police have informed that the gang was using fake numbers attached with the display pictures of VVIPs, including Rao himself. They used online forums to place purchase orders for products, later collecting the QR code of the sellers under the disguise of wanting to make the payment. They used these QR codes to withdraw money.
