Bengaluru: The Association for Information Technology (AIT), Bengaluru carried out a Water Conservation Campaign on Sunday, July 7 at three places in the city– outside Town Hall, Lalbagh West Gate and at M N Krishna Rao Park from 7 AM to 10 AM.

Members of the AIT held placards with various messages regarding water conservation and also handed out pamphlets bearing information on how a common citizen can save water, to the general public.

Addressing the gathering during the campaign, Dinesh Dhanapathi, president of AIT said, “Bengaluru is facing a severe water crisis on account of scanty rain, low storage, very low water table and growing demand. It is extremely important that we as citizens comprehend the gravity of the situation and make changes in our lifestyles as well as implement certain measures to conserve water with seriousness and determination.”

Rajkumar Dugar, Secretary of AIT said, “Right now, the storage at KRS is only at 15% of its full capacity. This is a huge alarm for Bengaluru. Unless each one of us pitches in to conserve water, the situation can turn into a crisis. Pollution of our water sources and wastage of rain water are adding to our woes. Like one of our campaign posters states, we can live without many things in life, but not without good clean water.”

S Sridhar, member and former president of the AIT said, “Apart from reducing water usage, the rainfall in and around Bengaluru, if fully harvested can make a significant impact on the need to depend on supply and pumping of water from distant sources. We hope more and more citizens will understand the gravity of the situation and take remedial action, because water conservation is not fully a Government job.”
