Bengaluru: Bangalore University (BU) Non-teaching Employees’ Association members are demanding promotions that they have been due for over three years.
Over 250 association members staged a protest in the campus on Wednesday February 9. As Vice Vhancellor of BU assured that the issue would be resolved in a week they dispersed.
Association Secretary Krishnappa H., said “We had submitted several memoranda to the University earlier and it was discussed in special Syndicate meeting too. It also got approved but some Syndicate members are now creating hurdles and asking for meetings to be held on the issue again. So we staged a protest.”
In all, BU has 1,240 sanctioned posts for non-teaching employees, out of which 540 are working, and 150 among them are eligible for promotion. As per the Varsity rules, those who have Qualification of PU and below must be appointed to Group D posts and those with PUC and above must be given Group C posts. However, the University has made appointments as per its whims and fancies. Now, 84 such appointments must be corrected with promotions. This apart, 70 others have been waiting for promotion for the last three years.
