Bengaluru: After having installed digital boards to monitor the sound pollution-levels at various places in Bengaluru and at Metro stations, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is all set to install a new system to decrease the noise caused by the trains, near the ramps of ‘Namma Metro’ tunnels.

The corporation has already called tender to decrease noise in south and south ramps of the tunnels ‘Greenline’. The estimated cost of the tender is Rs.44.46 lakh.

“The electric metro trains cause minimum sound pollution. When they run through tunnels and over bridges, the sound may not disturb public. But, when they run near ramps, the noise is more. To decrease this sound, the corporation will take steps to introduce a sound control system near ramps,” said an official.

“In this system, special high walls will be built near the ramps. The walls will be built out of a plastic like material, which would not only decrease the sound pollution but also help in maintaining the good quality of the tracks,” he explained.
