Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has come forward to rejuvenate Kengeri and Veerasandra lakes, which are at the edge of extinction.
Kengeri Lake Development Corporation had called tender in January 2017. “Because of strict rules of the Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority(KLCDA) the project was stopped,” officials said.
“We prepared the Detailed Project Report (DPR) one year back itself. It took a lot of time to get the license from KLCDA and to vacate the occupation. Besides, it was difficult to attract builders with stringent tender policies,” said an official working for the project.
Finally, MR Protech Private Limited has been awarded the tender and is all set to develop Kengeri lake by spending Rs.7 crores. “Bengaluru Water Board itself changed the path of sewage paths connected to the lake. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike cleared the wastage,” he said.
Chief Public Relation Officer of the Corporation U A Vasanth Rao said that they searched for financial assistance under companies’ social responsibility fund. Finally, it was decided that the corporation will bear all the costs. “Overall development of the lake is our objective,” he added.
