Bengaluru: Following the incidents of three bus catching fires in the last three months, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) BS4 midi buses will not hit the road anytime soon.

BMTC Vice Chairman (VC) M. R. Venkatesh has directed the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Mechanical Engineer (CME) to have all of the 2014 batch midi buses thoroughly checked by Ashok Leyland’s R&D team to determine the cause of the incident.

If the manufacturers ensure that such occurrences do not occur again, only then the buses become operational.

If another bus fire occurs following the manufacturer’s certification, the CME and the depot manager will be held responsible and will face severe consequences. The buses might go under the scanner from Monday April 17.
